Robin Hood was an expert archer who hit the bulls eye of every target.  He would show off his fancy footwork and skilled swordsmanship when dueling with the Sheriff of Nottingham and his deputies. This loveable outlaw was also a hopeless romantic who had eyes only for Maid Marian.

Maid Marian was a beautiful woman with royal links to Richard the Lionheart. She was Robin’s romantic interest and helped him in his quest for justice. Maid Marian was a compassionate, kind hearted ally who risked her freedom to help Robin and others. This character has been portrayed outstandingly by Olivia de Havilland and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio .

Friar Tuck has always been portrayed as a portly man who loved to eat. He was also skilled with a sword. He constantly tried keeping Robin and his Merry Men in line spiritually. He was very easy going once he met a stranger, and then showed strong loyalty for that friendship.

Robin’s Band of Merry Men included his right hand man Little John. He was very intelligent and led the band in Robin‘s absence. Much the Miller’s son, minstrel Alan-A-Dale, and Will Scarlet were also faithful and compassionate band members. All the men of Robin’s band were fiercely loyal to him and to their mission of aiding the poor.

Sherwood Forest

Robin and his men lived in Sherwood Forest. This is actually a real forest located in Nottinghamshire, England. An annual Robin Hood Festival is held there each year in honor of this exciting character. Doncaster’s Robin Hood airport in England is named after this rogue and commemorates him with a bronze Robin Hood statue.

Many films have been produced with notable actors Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, and Kevin Costner playing the legendary role. The Adventures of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn in 1938 was the most popular and most successful Robin Hood film ever  made.   The latest remake of the film starts Russell Crowe as Robin Hood and Kate Blanchett as Maid Marian.
